Traverse City Trip

Todd and I had the privileged to attend the wedding of a dear couple this last weekend. The bride, Laura, was a student in Todd's youth ministry and when she asked him to officiate the wedding, he jumped at the chance. We had a great time getting to know Laura's fiance', Eric, during the premarital counseling and when the "big" day arrived we couldn't have been happier for them.

Todd and I traveled up on Friday and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with both families. I always enjoy getting away, just the two of us, and even though we shared most of our time there with others, it still felt romantic to experience the whole thing together. Soon, we will be celebrating the anniversary of our own wedding 13 years ago.

The wedding took place in Sutton Bay (just outside of Traverse City) at the Black Star Farms. It was a quaint, beautifully decorated farm house that had such elegance and grace about it. Everything, from the winding staircase, to the black tile in the shape of a star in the entry way, made it clear that this home was maintained to its original brilliance with vigilance. The food was amazing (salmon and steak were the main courses for dinner), the wine and cheeses were made on site and we were able to share this great experience with some old friends to top it all off.

Though, the wedding and preparations seemed to last but a moment, I truly pray that Laura and Eric's marriage will last just like that spectacular home. Congrats, you two!

Kimmy, you do a very nice job of describing Black Star Farms. I pass by it all the time and my daughter and I like to check out the petting zoo from time to time. To add more synchronicity to my seeing your blog today, we're working on a magazine about weddings Up North at Traverse, Northern Michigan's Magazine. (Eventually, you'll be able to find it here: http://www.mynorth.com/My-North/Weddings/ )The print magazine is very nearly finished and it should be out in December. What we hope is that a community will build around getting married Up North, helping other brides with tips, advice, resources. I've started a group on our website community, called Getting Married Up North, you'll find it here http://community.mynorth.com/group/GettingMarriedUpNorth
I would be great if you would share your photos of Blackstar there. And you might find some other tidbits that apply to your own world of kids, work and life as a couple in the MyNorth.com community as well. Glad you enjoyed yourselves in the Traverse City area. I'm looking forward to reading about your next vacation ...
Rachel, marketing gal at Traverse and www.mynorth.com
